How Do You Know You Need A New Mattress?

While it may be possible to sleep on the same mattress for decades, this isn't something you want to do for many reasons. There can be a lot of different signs when it comes to determining that the time has come for you to replace your current mattress with a new one. Read here to learn about some of the reasons why you might want to buy a new mattress:

Your mattress is nearing a decade old

A good rule of thumb is to replace your mattress about every 8 or 9 years. If your mattress is approaching a decade in age, then it's time for you to have a new one. There are a lot of reasons for replacing your mattress this often with just a few of them including the amount of dead skin, body oils, sweat, and dust that will collect in the mattress by the time the 8-year mark arrives. Also, by this time your mattress will have become quite worn out, making it less comfortable and supportive.

You are buying a new bedroom set

If you are going to be buying a new bedroom set, then this is the time to decide whether you want to make any changes with the bed, including upgrading to a larger one. If so, you may even be able to get a deal when you buy an entire set with the mattress included.

Your mattress is causing you to have sleeping problems

Waking up feeling achy regularly indicates the mattress is no longer comfortable for you to sleep on. Waking up tired or irritable regularly indicates that your mattress may be causing you to toss and turn throughout the night, preventing you from getting a good sleep. This lets you know it's time to replace your current mattress.

Your mattress has an odor

If your mattress has an odor to it, then it has come to the point of needing to be replaced. Most odors may just be bothersome, but if they are caused by something like mold, then this can even be hazardous to your health.

You wake up with allergies

If you regularly wake up with allergy symptoms that clear up after you've been out of bed awhile, then allergens that have become trapped in the mattress are likely to blame and this means it's a good idea to get a new one.

You have had bed bugs

If you have had bed bugs in your home, then you should replace your mattress just to be on the safe side. Bed bugs can hide in many areas of your home, but they are often found in the crevices of mattresses.
