Decorating Your Home For The Holidays DIY-Style

When you are looking to decorate your home for the holidays but you would like to make your decor rather than buy commercially made decor, you may wonder what you can or should do to get started. There are many DIY projects that you can try to give your home that Christmas flare you are going for without making your home look identical to thousands of others around the country. Get to know just a few DIY projects you can try to get your home decorated this holiday season. Then, you can get started as soon as possible.

Make Fabric-Strip Wreaths

One of the ways you can make your home look unique this holiday season is to make your own fabric-strip wreaths for the holidays. All you need is a metal wreath form, a couple of yards of a holiday print (or color) fabric of your choosing, and some scissors and measuring tape to cut the fabric into strips. The strips will be about one inch by eight inches (or a little longer than eight inches if you like).

You will then tie the strips of fabric on the wreath form starting around the two outermost wires, then the middle two, and then the inner two and repeat all the way around the wreath form. You can make it as dense or as sparse as you would like to increase or decrease fullness. This gives you unique and beautiful wreaths easily.

Make Your Own Signs

Wall signs and outdoor signs proclaiming things like "joy" or "believe" or quotes from Christmas songs and literature are all the rage. But you don't have to spend all of your money to have those types of signs. You can make your own.

You will need to head to the hardware store and get the wood in whatever density and size you would like for your sign (you can also cut the wood at home if you prefer to get enough for several signs). If you have great penmanship, you can hand-draw the letters; otherwise, stencils come in all sorts of fonts and styles you can choose from. Then all you need is some sandpaper to smooth the wood surface and some paint.

Design signs in colors and styles that speak to you and your home decor style. Add snowmen, reindeer, or other holiday images to make them festive. Let your imagination go wild.

Now that you have a few ideas to help you decorate your home for the holidays in DIY style, you can get started on your projects right away.
